Collette Hurley vocals
Collette Hurley was born into a large Irish family where everyone played a musical instrument and sang. She developed a strong interest in British, Irish and American folk music from an early age, leading to regular singing performances in folk clubs in Southampton, London, Bath and Chichester.
In the 80s Collette lived and worked in Woodstock, New York, where she performed Irish music on local TV and at various venues in the town.
During many periods of time spent in Athens, Thessaloniki, Crete, Corfu, Lesbos and the Kyklades islands, Collette developed a passion for Greek music, song and dance. Her ambition was to sing with a Greek band in Plaka, Athens, which she did at Taverna Sisiphos and Taverna Kritikou in June 2007.
In 2006 Collette helped to form the band Ta Filia (The Kisses) with Nick Millington and David Stanley. Her repertoire of songs has grown. She particularly likes the singing of Sotiria Bellou, Marika Ninou and Rosa Eskinazy. Collette believes she has been infected with the Rebetiko ‘virus’ for which there is no known cure!
